Video Installation Social Sculpture

SmartSkirt watches the watchers via CCTV, encouraging empathy by reverse perspective: video monitors housed in hoodie sweatshirts display images of viewers.  Monumental in scale, this sculptural video installation ‘skirt’ is intended to evoke a wired public space context, raising issues of privacy, racial profiling, surveillance.   Rooted in Stoddard’s eclectic artistic practice and activist sensibility, SmartSkirt combines edginess (reused clothing, politics) with a collective spirit, -electronics with low-tech accessibility.
